Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Not a lot of water on the site

Arrived on site at about 1415 today and went onto the top of Brock's Hill as usual for my first look.  I came down the east side after not seeing any cows and met a dog walker coming from the Test Track direction, he told me they had been NE of the path 10 minutes earlier so I set off in that direction.  We are going to need a machete to navigate this part of the site soon. There were no traces of the cows in this direction.

The normally boggy ground here is dry and the ditches that normally contain water are just muddy. The Gelvert is not flowing; there is standing water in the stream bed to the south of the path but it is not flowing on the other side.

Heading for home I decided to check the far SW corner of the site (where I almost went on arrival) and there they were enjoying the cool shade.  All look well. Several of them came to check me out to see if I was carrying anything for them.

    Sunday 12th June - All 7 seen

The seven cows were all busy grazing in the long grass in the area around ///eggshell.farmed.outlooks at 14:15 this afternoon.  That area is quite boggy, but it wasn't stopping their hunt for the tastiest grass.

All the cows were good today.

    Saturday, 11 June 2022

    Saturday 11th June - All 7 seen

The seven cows were all huddled together at the gate to the Test Track section at 13:05 this afternoon.  They were trying to use each other to shield themselves from the swarm of flies that were bothering them.  When not jockeying for position, they were chewing their cud.

All the cows were good today except for the large number of flies which were being a real nuisance to them.

    Grazing and Browsing

All seven were on the eastern slope of Brock's Hill at 1015 this morning, happily grazing or browsing the young birches.  They all appeared to be content and well.

Geebe Hebe seemed particularly pleased to have company and came over for a head scratch.

    Sunday 6th June - All 7 seen

The seven cows were all lying down in the area around ///pocketed.keepers.lavished at 13:05 this afternoon.  They were all relaxing and chewing their cud.  Cow 231 had a little blood at the top of her tail and rear left leg, but it looked like she was just going through her monthly cycle.

All the cows were good today.

    Brocks Hill

All 7 having a jolly old kip on the pathway at the bottom of Brocks.  Number 231 had a spot of blood at base of tail and has swipped it up left leg.  Not sure why there is blood but it may attract flies / insects.

A second point...there seems to be some fly tipped wood on the pathway to the Test Track area.  I find it hard to believe its fly tipped as its well into the site, however its not a natural collection.  Anyway, its reported.
