Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

The cows were wandering along the main path towards the north end of the site at 11:45 this morning.  They were stopping regularly to munch on patches of grass or to eat some leaves or gorse from the bushes as they went.  By 12:10 they had made it to the area around ///enable.blackmail.wakes where they were all happily munching on leaves from the trees.  There was a gentle breeze blowing which was helping to keep them cool.

The ponies were all busy eating grass at the east side of Brock's Hill at 12:30.  They continued grazing for a good twenty minutes before they started to rest in the area around ///slant.flock.opened.  Two of the ponies were standing, relaxing in the warm sunshine.  The third initially sat down before she properly stretched out and lay on her side.  She stayed like that for a while before having a roll around and returned to her sitting position.

The cows and the ponies were all good today.

    Three ponies came on parade

We were just thinking that this would be another 'nil point' when the three ponies popped out from cover onto the track for inspection near the gate to the test track at 1845.  They all look sleek and healthy.  The gate was locked and no cows were close enough to be seen.

    Sunday, 21 May 2023

    Sunday 21st May - All 7 seen

The remaining three ponies were busy grazing near the corral at 12:40 this afternoon. They were all very relaxed and seemed happy enough. All three came over and said hello. After a long search of the site, cow 227 was found munching on gorse in the area around ///drags.widen.performed at 13:35. The other three were spread out grazing around ///major.reap.clarifies fairly close by. They were all fine and seemed happy to have a visitor. They must have all been hiding the first time I looked in that area :-). The ponies were still happily grazing in the area around ///choice.splash.startles at 14:00 when I was leaving site.

3 NF mares removed - 4 cows on Test Track

The grazier is removing 3 of the New Forest mares this afternoon to go back to the stallion. So an amended total now of 5 NF ponies on Long Valley - Brocks Hill.

Rebecca was asking about the cattle: there are 4 British White on the Test Track part of Long Valley, the other side of the field gate from Brocks Hill (at the end of the track). Due to military training you can only access there when the kissing gate is unlocked (this tends to be after 4.30pm and some week-ends, but the timings vary).

Thursday 18th May. Eight ponies seen. No cows.

The ponies were lying down or standing dozing in the sun. All well.  No sign of the cows, but then I’m still not sure where they are! Can anyone enlighten me. 😊

The cows were grazing in the area around ///feast.fearfully.hops at 07:00 this morning.  They were slightly damp from the earlier rain but were drying in the morning sunshine.  They were all happy and relaxed.

Only found four ponies this morning.  They were all busy munching in the area around ///buggy.define.decency a while later.  They, too, were happy and relaxed.  Despite a good look around, I couldn't find the other four, and didn't have the correct footwear to wade out to the north-east corner of site to check there.

The cows and the ponies that were found were good this morning.
