The ponies were happily grazing at the corner by the racecourse at 13:50 this afternoon. When the foal saw me coming, he wandered up the path to meet me. He was very friendly, immediately giving me head rubs, nuzzles and licks as I gave him his first neck rub. We then walked back to the corner, where he stood in the sun, enjoying a long back rub. Meanwhile, Megan was busy munching on fresh grass, and Pandora came over to greet me, standing beside the foal and me at the edge of the path.
The little one just wanted to be stroked today, and for the first forty minutes, he never left my side. He shifted positions a couple of times to escape the warm sun. He loved having the sides of his neck rubbed and was so relaxed that he struggled to keep his eyes open. At one point, while I was kneeling in front of him, he rested his head on my shoulder. His mane was full of sticky burs, which he happily let me remove.
Pandora was also very friendly today. She made a point of coming over and standing close to me several times, which I think helped her escape the many flies. She enjoyed having her neck gently stroked. By 14:50, as it was getting warmer, she went into the trees by the racecourse fence to rest. When I checked on her, she came over again and stood close, happily accepting more neck strokes.
Megan grazed happily for most of my visit, pausing only a couple of times when the foal wanted to nurse. She did come over to greet me several times. Just after 15:00, all three ponies made their way through the thicket to the trees in the far southwest corner of the site, where they settled in the shade to relax. The little one came over for some more strokes before I said my goodbyes about fifteen minutes later.
The ponies were all good today.
