Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Sunday 3rd November - All 6 seen - the foal has a slightly weepy right eye

At 11:30 this morning, I found two ponies and the foal by the path along the side of the Tweseldown Racecourse. The foal came over straight away to say hello, eager for his first neck rub, offering affectionate cuddles and nuzzles in return. The other two ponies were equally friendly, happy to stand by and enjoy plenty of strokes. The remaining ponies were grazing in the gorse bushes behind, but gradually came out to greet me, happy to have the gorse brushed off their backs and manes.

The little one was especially friendly today and wanted nothing but strokes and rubs. He rarely left my side, enjoying long neck and back scratches. He was totally relaxed, often bowing his head and resting a hind leg. His right eye was slightly weepy, with a few clear tears, so it's something to keep an eye on over the next few days please. I've shared some photos with the owner, including one of the chip on his rear left hoof.

Poppy was thoroughly enjoying the gorse today. While she briefly came out to say hello, she quickly returned to grazing in the bushes. Around 12:45, I spotted her in a clear patch and spent some time with her, giving her strokes while she munched.

The ponies stayed near the path, happy to rest and take turns coming over for more attention. Poppy joined us a short time later. By 13:30, they started heading back into the gorse to graze. I said my goodbyes shortly after, with the little one the last to leave. They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.

The ponies were all good today.
