At 15:30 this afternoon, steers 75 and 257 were crossing the main path to graze in the thicket near ///after.states.zoom. I was very pleased to see that steer 257 was walking much better today. The pair enjoyed plenty of fresh grass and silver birch leaves as they gradually moved west.
Steer 178 was grazing in the shade further northeast, near ///herb.taller.robots, at 15:50. He soon came over to say hello and happily accepted a long, relaxing head and neck rub. Afterwards, he started to follow me as I wandered back towards the other two but stopped along the way to enjoy some long grass.
By 16:10, steers 75 and 257 had settled down to rest and chew their cud just east of Brock's Hill, near ///vowel.oblige.lobbed. Although they were being pestered by flies, they seemed content to rest and put up with them.
The ponies were grazing in the shade beneath the trees in the far northeast corner of the site, near ///lessening.panic.shell, at 16:30. As I approached, they both came over to greet me, clearly enjoying the strokes and rubs. After a while, they returned to grazing, making the most of the long grass. They frequently took turns coming back for more attention, rewarding me with gentle nuzzles and cuddles in return. The girls were happy, relaxed, and very well settled.
After more grazing and plenty of neck and back rubs, I began to say my goodbyes at 17:30. However, the ponies weren’t quite ready to let me go and followed me out into the open. After one last round of strokes, they let me leave, trailing behind for a short while before settling to graze in the late afternoon sunshine.
With more warm weather on the way this week, we should keep a close eye on the available drinking water. There’s still water in the Gelvert Stream immediately south of the main path, though it’s completely dry further downstream. It’s also dry in the middle section of the site near ///hands.bluff.regime. However, there’s still drinking water available in the pond and by the fire hydrant sign near ///tent.dart.vies (although it doesn't look particularly clean).
The cows and the ponies were all good today.
