At 12:05 this afternoon, the ponies were grazing happily in the sunshine in the southwest corner of the site, just beyond the main entrance. They were browsing contentedly among the gorse bushes. The girls were very friendly, each taking a turn to come over, say hello, and enjoy plenty of strokes and rubs.
After our greetings, they returned to grazing but frequently came back for more attention, leaning in for long neck and back scratches. They also appreciated having loose gorse brushed from their backs and untangled from their manes, thanking me in return with gentle nuzzles and cuddles.
By 13:20, the ponies had moved down to the side of the racecourse, where they alternated between eating gorse, foraging for acorns beneath the fallen leaves, and returning for more strokes and rubs. Thankfully, they didn’t have much success in finding acorns.
I said my goodbyes at 13:50, leaving them grazing or resting peacefully by the side of the path.
The ponies were all good today.
