Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Sunday 11th May - All 3 seen

At 16:20 this afternoon, steer 178 was lying down, relaxing and chewing his cud in the pasture by the Test Track gate, near ///reach.only.unearthly. He was happy to receive plenty of head, ear, and neck strokes, which also gave him a bit of relief from the many flies. Steer 75 was having a good scratch against a tree in the area behind, but soon came over for a few curious sniffs before settling down in the shade. Steer 257 was lying down in the bushes close to steer 75, also resting and chewing his cud. Steer 178 enjoyed more strokes and rubs until just before 17:00, when he got up and started grazing. I noticed that the cattle can't graze right up to the bushes along the fence line at the eastern end of the pasture without their collars triggering a warning sound. It happened with steer 178 today, and also on Friday afternoon when steer 257 tried to browse in the bushes. Around 17:00, all three steers wandered off to the northwest, happily grazing on the fresh grass as they went. They gradually followed the path to the bushes beside the Gelvert Stream, where they tucked into the abundance of leaves. The stream was flowing, and there was plenty of extra drinking water available in the pond too. I said my goodbyes at 17:30, leaving them all peacefully grazing. The cows were all good today.
